Air New Zealand helps Santa deliver presents during border closures

Air New Zealand’s Christmas 2021 video sees the airline helping Santa get presents into the country in time for Christmas, via Bastion Shine.

The ‘Magical Delivery’ campaign contains a references to COVID-19, such as border closures and issues with people being on mute during video calls.

In the 60-second spot, Santa is approached by an elf telling him he won’t be able to make it into Aotearoa. After asking if Lorde, Keith Urban or Frodo can help, Santa video calls Air New Zealand for assistance with cargo. The aviation company then ships out the presents.

Air New Zealand chief customer and sales officer, Leanne Geraghty, commented: “We’re excited to be able to provide some cheer and happiness this holiday season and to be reconnecting friends and whānau when international travel restrictions ease in early 2022.”

Bastion Shine CEO Simon Curran said: “There’s no doubt that the whole country has been looking forward to Christmas more than ever this year, so we’re glad to work with our amazing partners Air New Zealand to add a little extra cheer to this festive season. And thankful that we can look forward to 2022 with some optimism, both for Air New Zealand and for the entire country.”

As part of the campaign, Air New Zealand is offering Kiwis the chance to win daily prizes for the 12 days of Christmas, including Airpoints Dollars and two return tickets to New York.

Geraghty said: “Some magical deliveries will be happening on board selected flights and in our ports. The daily prize draw along with some surprises around the country are our way of saying thanks to our valued customers for standing by us through another challenging year.”

The campaign is on demand, YouTube and Facebook.

Bastion Shine was only recently acquired by Bastion, which itself was rebranded from Bastion Collective in October.
