AKQA names Sam Sterling for specially developed chief strategy officer role for Asia Pacific

AKQA has appointed its managing director of Greater China, Japan, Sam Sterling, as its chief strategy officer for Asia Pacific effective immediately.

Sterling has been with AKQA for two-and-a-half years. The role was developed specifically for Sterling to grow the AKQA brand across the region.

Sterling’s time leading the Shanghai and Tokyo offices lead AKQA to win clients including Maserati and Hyperice, and Japanese conglomerate Itochu. She will remain based in Asia and will continue consulting with the Chinese and Japanese teams on leadership matters.

Sterling said: “The world is in an extraordinary place right now and the challenges of this time bring equally remarkable opportunities. I’m delighted to work with our team and clients to realise the full potential of these opportunities.

“Living in China, I feel I’m immersed in the most innovative market in the world, and there couldn’t be a more exciting time to both contribute to the growth in China, but translate learnings into impactful outcomes in the West.”

Managing partner, Brian Vella, praised Sterling’s contribution to the business.

“Her consistent results demonstrate her excellent contribution and influence for our teams and clients, As a result, we are excited to increase her responsibility for clients and further evolve our relationships.”

Sterling recently finished her post graduate studies in innovation at Harvard. She is currently a doctoral candidate in business administration in a joint program from China’s Fudan and England’s Durham Universities.
