Al Jazeera English’s Ross Dagan returns to Ten as director of news content
Ross Dagan, Al Jazeera English’s executive producer for news, will return to Network Ten as director of news content in May.
His appointment follows the resignation of John Chouiefate, who left his role as executive director of news to pursue ‘several business opportunities’.
Dagan has spent more than two and a half years based in Qatar with Al Jazeera English, but the majority of his career has been based locally, in news director roles across Seven and Ten.
He was also head of news and current affairs for TVNZ in Auckland.
In his new role, Dagan will be responsible for news content and operations across all distribution platforms, including Ten Eyewitness News First at Five and news content on Ten Daily. He will report directly into Ten’s chief content officer, Beverley McGarvey. Dagan’s appointment is one of the biggest hires since CBS took over Network Ten at the end of last year.
McGarvey said it was great to have someone with both local and international experience joining the network.
“Network Ten has a very proud heritage in news, while CBS is one of the leading news organisations in the world. That combination underpins our commitment to building our news service,” McGarvey said.
“With more than 20 years’ experience in news, Ross has unique credentials, a proven track record and a reputation for leading change. He is the ideal person to lead and expand our news division.”
Dagan said he was looking forward to returning home.
“Network Ten’s people are its greatest assets, many of whom I have had the privilege of working alongside before,” Dagan said.
In the last three months, Ten has made a number of editorial appointments, including Lisa Wilkinson as executive editor of Ten Daily, and Mel Cornford as managing editor.
Finally a commercial news service that might rival SBS with this appointment, SBS still have the best news readers though.
