An unknown blogger writes…
Of the many things said about me on social media (and I’m vain enough to assume it is me), “unknown influential blogger” is the one I may just add to my resume.
Thanks, Telstra.
I could be entirely wrong, but I suspect they’re referring to this opinion piece from last week which also featured an example of a like-chasing Telstra post written by “GS”.
For the record, I personally think that Telstra generally does an impressive job on social media – more so than many brands and particularly with its 24×7 service page.
But getting into fights with bloggers via like-chasing passive aggressive Facebook posts, is perhaps a tad beneath the brand.

I don’t understand the rationale. We know its stupid, but why stop now? Well, because its stupid?
Perhaps the truth…out social media metric for success of this campaign is 400k likes and seeing as we are committed to it we will see it through then slap ourselves on the back despite knowing it means very little. We will, however, in the campaign debrief note that metrics for success will be reviewed for the next campaign.
What was that saying about the definition of insanity?

It would be very interesting to see the results from Facebook enabling a ‘hate’ button, as well as the like button.
You could then truly see a real indication of a brands worth.
400k likes v 500k hates would equate to negative 100k. (Even without the condescending use of: “Hate, if you turn your mobile off when you go to the cinema”, or “Hate if you prefer hands free when cycling”…….
I would not be surprised at all, if a few large brands on Facebook would end up in negative territory if there were a ‘hate’ button.
Would Telstra be one of these brands? Possibly…

I think perhaps they mean Condescending Corporate Brand Page?

Urgh. I’ve just included this and the previous status post of “What Not To Do” for a new client. Thanks Telstra!

Don’t worry Tim,
I saw the BBC describe South China Morning Post as “a local paper” last week.
Understated is the new black.
