Carlton United Brewers has rejigged the marketing team behind its key beer brands, appointing Andrew Meldrum to run Carlton Draught and VB and moving Vincent Ruiu to head up marketing for its premium and craft categories.

Meldrum fills Ruiu’s former role, and returns to the company after six years away as a marketing consultant and a professional poker player.

Ruiu shifts to group marketing manager for Crown Lager & Matilda Bay. This position was vacated by Ben Summons, who is now the category head of chocolate at Kraft Foods. Summons left in July 2010, and the position has been vacant until now.

Meldrum was formerly group marketing manager between 2000 and 2005. He was among those behind the Made from Beer campaign for Carlton.

Ruiu has had two spells at CUB over a six and a half year tenure, and has also worked at as the international marketing manager for Campari International and marketing manager at Just Group. Among his most notable ads was Slo Mo for Carlton Draught, which won a gold lion at Cannes.

He is also credited for the Steven Seagal-fronted campaign for Carlton Dry.

Ruiu told Mumbrella that while the “shutters are not down” for all agency suppliers he works with, the creative agency is the first agency to receive his brief – unlike the recent move by Kellogg’s to adopt joint agency briefing.

Both Ruiu and Meldrum are currently recruiting at assistant brand manager level.
