Andy Lee back to Nine for ‘reverse Gogglebox’ panel show The Hundred

Comedian Andy Lee is the face of a new primetime show coming to Nine titled The Hundred, which will see him tackle each week’s big talking points alongside one hundred everyday Aussies.

The new one-hour weekly format will see Lee joined by 100 guests on a giant 27-square metre screen, handpicked to represent “the makeup of Australia”.

The guests will be polled live, with questions like “How many Australians have had plastic surgery? How many of us have never seen the ocean? And why do the people in the southern states prefer a café latte while the rest of the nation goes for a flat white (except in regional Australia, where they’ll take ‘a cappuccino extra hot, thanks mate’)?”‘

Each week, Lee will be joined by comedians and celebrities on the panel, who’ll battle it out to prove which of them knows Australians best.

Lee said: “The Hundred is kind of like reverse Gogglebox. Gogglebox is everyday people sitting in their homes and picking apart TV shows, whereas The Hundred is a TV show diving into everyday people’s homes and learning more about their lives.

“It’s been over a year in the making and we’ve uncovered some amazing stats along the way as well as some really boring ones. In a bold decision, we’ve decided to leave the boring ones out of the show. In a post-truth era, The Hundred fearlessly crunches the numbers to find out who we really are, in a laugh-out-loud format.”

Casting to be part of The Hundred is currently taking place.

The Hundred will be the second new show Lee has hosted so far in 2021, after he became the face of Ten’s The Cube, a format adopted from the UK.

The game show, which saw everyday Aussies complete household style challenges, launched in February to 567,000 metro viewers, but by April had fallen to 299,000 metro viewers.

Nine will be betting that The Hundred will bring the types audiences that tuned into Hamish and Andy shows like Perfect Holiday and True Story in recent years.

Lee was also part of Nine’s Australia Open coverage, hosting the popular short segment ‘Guess Whom’ with tennis players.

The Hundred is an original concept developed by Screentime Australia and Andy Lee, in association with Nine.
