Animal Kingdom wins at Sundance
David Michôd’s debut feature about a Melbourne family of criminals has won the World Cinema Jury Prize at Sundance; short Young Love receives Honourable Mention.
Animal Kingdom has received rave reviews since its January 22 premiere, and although no international distribution deals have been confirmed, producer Liz Watts said both audiences and buyers “have loved the film”.
Madman Entertainment will release the film in Australia on May 6.
A less visible but equally happy achievement was for the short film Young Love, from dir/writer Ariel Kleiman, produced by the University of Melbourne’s VCA Film & TV School. Judged by Sterlin Harjo, Brent Hoff and Christine Vachon, it received an Honourable Mention in Short Filmmaking.
