Another TV reporter departs Seven

Another long-serving 7NEWS reporter is leaving the network amidst the biggest shake-up to the network’s news offering in years.

Per TV Tonight, 7NEWS Adelaide reporter Andrea Nicolas is departing the network after 17 years to join SA Treasurer Stephen Mulligan’s staff as senior media adviser.

“It’s been an incredible 18 years on and off at Seven, working with some of the best in the business and having a range of great experiences, but I’m looking forward to a new challenge and the next chapter,” Nicolas said.

7NEWS Adelaide news director Mark Mooney said: “Andrea departs with our full support and thanks for her extraordinary contribution to 7NEWS Adelaide over almost two decades.

“This is a fantastic opportunity, and we wish her every success. We’ll try not to give her too hard a time!”

The news comes just hours after Seven confirmed Hugh Whitfeld as director of the 7NEWS new-look National News Desk.

An internal email sent to Seven staffers last Thursday evening explained the changes: “The 7NEWS National News Desk will be home to a centralised team of journalists whose responsibility as expert editors in their round will be to deliver exclusive content beyond anything seen on television.

“The specialist rounds cover everything from Business and Aviation to Property and Asia.”

Under the new structure, national news desk director and foreign editor will be Hugh Whitfeld, federal politics will be led by 7NEWS political editor Mark Riley and political correspondents Rob Scott, Isabelle Mullen, Ben Downie and Josh Martin.

In the last week, news boss Anthony De Ceglie introduced a horoscopes segment on the nightly coverage, and a new weekly satirical segment, The 6:57pm News, hosted by comedian Mark Humphries each Friday evening.
