Archive video: Fairfax boss Greg Hywood on compact editions, losing business models and paywalls

At the first Mumbrella360 conference 12 months ago, the then newly appointed Fairfax Media CEO Greg Hywood was interviewed by Mumbrella editor Tim Burrowes.

Hywood predicted that the company would be more profitable in two years.

He was also asked about how the Sydney Morning Herald and The Age would look in compact sized formats and his views on paywalls.

He asked the audience: “How many companies do you know that fundamentally lose their business model?”

Fairfax Media today announced 1,900 job cuts, the introduction of pay walls and the resizing of The SMH and The Age.
