ARN boss: We were complacent

duncan campbell arnThe boss of the Australian Radio Network’s programming has said that the company previously displayed “a lot of complacency” – and that management and presenters are now more accountable for their performance.

ARN’s main networks are Mix and Classic Hits, which is branded as WSFM in Sydney.

Talking on the Mumbrellcast, ARN’s national content manager Duncan Campbell said:

“I think there’s been a lot of complacency. Absolutely.

“The future is about people being more accountable for what they do – from programme directors right down through to the talent as well. There’s a repositioning not just of the stations but of ARN itself.

“There’s a new culture.”  

Campbell, who has previously worked for Austereo and in the UK joined ARN last year.

His key moves so far have included reformatting station music policy and creating the new Mix 106.5 breakfast show featuring Andrew Rochford and Claire Hooper.

In Sydney, Mix 106.5 currently has an audience share of 3.9% while WSFM is on 6.9%. Meanwhile, the FM market leader in Sydney is Austereo’s 2Day FM with a share of just over 10%.

In Melbourne, Mix 101.1 is on 5.8% while Gold 104.3 is on 7.4%.
