ARN competition seeks radio presenter for The Edge

The Australian Radio Network’s Urban music station The Edge 96.One has launched a competition to find an on-air presenter and a chart show presented by its digital music streaming station iHeartRadio.

The announcement:

The Australian Radio Network (ARN) today announced two new initiatives for its dedicated Urban music station, The Edge 96.ONE – Edge Star and The iHeartRadio Thumbs Up Chart.

In exciting news for The Edge’s loyal listeners, the station last night revealed at an exclusive client and media event at Boom Box at The Star, that it will be running a nation-wide competition to find its next on-air presenter.

The Edge search for a star will give one lucky and passionate Edge lover the chance to fulfil their dreams of becoming a radio presenter. Determined by their creativity, enthusiasm, and talent, the winner will be rewarded an on-air job at The Edge 96.ONE.

“We’re incredibly excited to launch Edge Star,” The Edge’s Content Director Charlie Fox said. “Specific details on how to enter will be revealed next month, but we’re already anticipating some incredible entries given that The Edge 96.ONE listeners are so loyal and passionate about the station.”

“The winner will not only work for The Edge, they will have the opportunity to walk the red carpet and rub shoulders with celebrities at events like the one we held last night at Boom Box,” Fox continued. “We will take one listener’s life and change it forever!”

In further news for The Edge, ARN’s ever-expanding digital music service, iHeartRadio will begin its first formal integration with ARN stations, presenting The iHeartRadio Thumbs Up Chart on The Edge 96.One.

Based on the weekly music chart of users’ favourite songs on iHeartRadio (selected by clicking the ‘Thumbs Up’ function), The Edge will play the Top 9 at 9 (9am), 3 at 3 (3pm), 4 at 4 (4pm), 5 at 5 (5pm), and 9 at 9 (9pm).

“The use of up-to-the-minute data given by iHeartRadio users, is an amazing way to immediately integrate their tastes on The Edge,” ARN’s Chief Operating Officer & Head of iHeartRadio Geraint Davies said.

“It also provides us with solid information regarding what Australian listeners are currently listening to and loving, and this in turn goes on to influence The Edge’s and other ARN station’s playlists.”

The Edge 96.ONE is owned by the Australian Radio Network and is a dedicated Urban music station targeting an 18-29 year old demographic and broadcasts from Sydney’s Greater West. The Edge 96.ONE can also be heard in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Adelaide on DAB+ radios and online nationally via iHeartRadio.

Launched in Australia in late 2013, the iHeartRadio digital music service has exceeded expectations and engaged audiences across all ARN content platforms, including a 71% increase in live streaming for all ARN radio stations.

Reaching 30 million registered users faster than any digital service in internet history, iHeartRadio continues to be the No. 1 all-in-one digital service in the US with more than 60 million monthly unique users across its network. With a library of more than 18 million songs and 450,000 artists, iHeartRadio’s Custom Station feature offers listeners more music than any other service available.

The iHeartRadio mobile app is available for download in the iTunes and Google Play app stores.

In Australia, ARN’s brand strategy of KIIS 1065, MixFM and Classic Hits reaches Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide and Brisbane. Entertaining and influencing up to 4 million listeners, ARN is one of the leading broadcasters in the commercially important 25-54 demographics in Australia.
