ARN’s iHeartPodcast Network tops Australian Podcast Ranker

The Australian Podcast Ranker now lists the country’s top 10 podcast publishers based on monthly downloads, with Australian Radio Network’s (ARN) iHeartPodcast topping the list. It had 324 active podcasts in May and 8.448m monthly downloads, ahead of SCA’s PodcastOne which had 394 podcasts and 7.214m downloads.

iHeartPodcast’s Stuff You Should Know also topped the list of Top 100 Podcasts, ahead of Audioboom’s/ iHeartPodcast’s Casefile True Crime, which debuted at number two.

SCA’s Hamish and Andy, News Corp’s From The Newsroom, Schwartz Media’s 7am, ARN’s The Kyle and Jackie O Show, and Stitcher’s My Favourite Murder were all bumped down one place by the debut of Casefile True Crime.

Other big movers on the list include News Corp’s I Catch Killers with Gary Jubelin, which climbed 28 places to 11th, and SCA’s Emsolation, with former radio personality Em Rusciano, which climbed 35 places to 50th overall.

Podcast versions of some prominent radio shows fell down the list, with SCA’s Hit Network drive show Hughesy and Ed, with Dave Hughes and Ed Kavalee down 23 places to 42nd. Their lead-in show, Carrie and Tommy, with Carrie Bickmore and Tommy Little, fell 30 places to 77th.

The Ray Hadley Morning Show, which goes to air on Nine Radio’s 2GB, fell 16 places to 64th, while Mornings with Neil Mitchell, from Melbourne’s 3AW fell 19 places to 78th.

Melbourne’s Fox FM breakfast show Fifi, Fev and Byron, with Fifi Box, Brendan Fevola and Byron Cooke fell 44 places to 69th, and Nova’s Sydney breakfast show Fitzy and Wippa with Ryan Fitzgerald and Michael Wipfli, fell 17 places to 61st.

This month, both Audioboom and West Australian Newspapers joined the reporting.

Commercial Radio Australia (CRA) boss Joan Warner welcomed them to the fold.

“The addition of the new Top 10 Publishers list, along with the provision of new data on total monthly downloads and podcast episode numbers provides new detail on the scale of podcasting in Australia and gives advertisers a more complete, independent report to track and compare podcast performance,” she said.

The Australian Podcast Ranker has now moved to reporting downloads for the calendar month. This reporting period covers 1 May to 31 May. The most recent ranking covered 30 March to 3 May.

Participating publishers in the Australian Ranker include Southern Cross Austereo, News Corp Australia, Nova, Schwartz Media, TOFOP Productions, SEN / Crocmedia, The Parent Brand, Australian Radio Network, Nine, ARN/iHeartMedia, Wavelength Creative, Stitcher, Wondery, Audioboom, West Australian Newspapers and NBC News.
