At least five vie for ABC television job
There are at least five contenders for the chance to run the ABC’s TV operation, reports the Sydney Morning Herald.
The vacancy has been created by the departure of Kim Dalton after seven years in the role.
According to the SMH article, contenders include:
- Former Shine Australia MD Matt Campbell who was ousted late last year;
- ABC1 channel controller Brendan Dahill;
- BBC Worldwide GM Deirdre Brennan;
- Southern Star’s Courtney Gibson;
- Former Zapruder’s Other Films executive Anita Jacoby who left last year following the merger with Cordell Jigsaw
The vacuum left by Dalton’s vacancy has already raised eyebrows, with the sudden targeting of ABC TV publicist Lesna Thomas for redundancy seen by some as an opportunist move.
Others said to have ruled themselves out of the rule include former Ten programming boss David Mott, who was ousted from the network last year, and the head of ABC International Lynley Marshall.

I would have thought that Deidre Brennan is a shoe-in. She understands the ABC having worked there for many years and being very good while there and since then doing well at UKTV/BBC Worldwide. The ABC needs a mature unifying voice with some real vision as to where it fits. Its content of late has been pretty safe and mediocre despite the increased budget they’ve got.

David Mott would be great but so would Anita Jacoby, she has alot of ABC experience lets face it.
A lot of Gruens under the bridge plus alot of other ABC commissions .
Just a thought . Jonathan Coleman x
