Australia’s news media publishers have scored 12 finalist nominations for this year’s INMA (International News Media Association) 2020 Global Media Awards, making it the fourth highest recipient of finalists.

There are 173 finalists globally for the awards, from a field of 824 entries from 242 news brands in 44 countries. India achieved the highest number of finalists at 29, followed by the US with 27, Norway with 14 and then Australia with 12.

New Zealand’s publishers have nine finalist nominations across a range of categories.

INMA has rewarded excellence in news media since 1937. This year across 15 categories, the Global Media Awards competition recognises innovation in building news brands, platform excellence, audience development, advertising sales and nurturing corporate culture. Entries are divided into global/national brands and regional/local brands.

There are 42 judges from 20 countries who focused on breakthrough results, unique concepts, strong creativity, innovative thinking and winning synergies across media platforms.

Commenting on the INMA Awards finalists, NewsMediaWorks CEO, Peter Miller, said: “Australian and New Zealand news publishers have produced another strong year of finalist representation. It’s exciting to see the broad range of categories that our publishers are finalists in, amongst some strong competition from around the world. When it comes to innovation and initiatives, we certainly punch above our weight. The INMA Global Media Awards are hotly contested and we look forward to seeing some podium finishes.”

Winners for the 2020 INMA Global Media Awards will be announced on 28 April at the closing dinner of the 90th Annual INMA World Congress of News Media at the historic Opera Ballroom of the Intercontinental Le Grand in Paris.
