Australia’s two magazine associations announce alliance

After years of Australia’s large and small magazine publishers pulling in different directions, Magazine Publishers of Australia and Publishers Australia are to work together, the organisations announced today.

Speaking at today’s Bell Awards, PA chairman Geoff Hird announced the new alliance which will see Australian Magazine Week held next November.

The move comes just a day after ACP rejoined the MPA.

MPA will become a member of Publishers Australia with marketing content to be shared across the websites of both organisations.

Hird said: “The MPA becoming a member of Publishers Australia is a testament to the progress our association has made over the past 18 months. The alliance will enable us to build a broader range of activities and services for our members, especially in the areas of training and research. The combined resources will produce exciting initiatives to boost awareness of the industry, support the growing membership of PA and provide a more active platform of services for MPA members.”

MPA members will be invited to attend PA’s networking events across the country.

MPA chairman Nick Chan said: “The alliance will allow the associations to leverage their individual strengths and work towards greater market presence for the magazine industry. It provides new opportunities to convey the message that magazines are in robust health and continue to be engaging, first-tier media channels for consumers and advertisers.”

Magazine week will take place in Sydney from 7-11 November 2011. The event will see international speakers, advertising and editorial workshops and professional development courses. It will culminate in the Publishers Australia Excellence Awards.
