Award-winning design director joins DDB Sydney
DDB Group Sydney has nabbed Howatson and Company’s former head of design, Caroline Gilroy.
Gilroy joins the agency with over 20 years of brand and advertising design experience.
She has held senior design roles at agencies across Sydney, Melbourne, London, and New York, including at M+C Saatchi’s Re, Droga5, South South West, and Studio Round. She also has extensive freelancing experience, having been engaged by Mother, BMF, Houston Group, Karmarama, Grey Group, and more.

Before her most recent freelancing stint, Gilroy was head of design at Howatson and Co, where she was responsible for building the design team in the agency’s early years.
Now she will lead the design team at DDB Sydney, which she described as a “powerhouse in the industry”.
“…I’m so excited to be part of an organisation that truly values craft,” Gilroy said in a media release on Friday.
“Working alongside such a talented group of strategic and creative thinkers is both a dream role and an absolute privilege.”
Gilroy is an award-winning designer, having taken home Mumbrella Awards, Spikes, Lions, D&AD, and Sydney Design Awards gongs over her career.
Matt Chandler, CCO at DDB Sydney, said her appointment is a “key addition” to the agency’s creative leadership team.
“Building a strong culture of design, and a deeper commitment to craft, will lift everything we do across the group,” he said in the release. “We’re very fortunate to have Caroline join us in this role – we’re excited to have her talents as part of the DDB Sydney journey ahead.”
Her appointment is effective immediately.
