Claire Askew promoted to editor of Cosmopolitan

Bauer Media has named Claire Askew the new editor of Cosmopolitan, filling the void of Bronwyn McCahon who departed in February.

Claire has been deputy editor of Cosmopolitan since April 2014. She joined Bauer Media Australia in June 2011 as lifestyle director for Woman’s Day, which followed her two-plus years as deputy editor for Cosmopolitan in the UK.

Marina Go, general manager Hearst Australia and publisher of Bauer Media’s young women’s portfolio, said in a statement: “Claire is a highly experienced editor and understands the Cosmopolitan brand inside and out having worked on it both in Australia and the UK.

“There is no one better to lead it on the next exciting chapter that will ensure we continue to connect with our readers wherever they want to engage with us.”

Askew said: “I’m delighted to be taking on the role of editor of Cosmopolitan. It will be a huge privilege to edit such an iconic magazine and to be following in the footsteps of some brilliant editors who have helped create a brand that has such an inspiring impact on women’s lives.”

According to the most recent data from the Audit Bureau of Circulation, Cosmopolitan has a circulation of 64,278.

The appointment of Askew follows Bauer Media naming Nick Chan its new CEO.

Askew starts immediately.

A deputy editor is yet to be appointed with Bauer saying Askew’s replacement will be decided “in due course”.
