Beauty and the Beast dominates weekend box office

Disney’s Beauty and the Beast maintained its box office lead with weekend takings of $7.740m, bringing it to a total of $26.157m since its release two weeks ago.

Paramount’s Ghost in the Shell hit second place in its debut week. The live action re-make of the cult Japanese anime, which features Scarlett Johansson as Major Killian, earned a total of $2.422m.

Warner Brothers’ The Lego Batman Movie earned a total of $2.283m over its debut weekend. The animated comedy is set three years after the Lego universe is saved in the original Lego Movie and centres around the Joker getting his revenge after finding out Batman doesn’t consider him much of a foe.

Fox’s Boss Baby, a film about a besuited talking baby, earned $1.977m over the weekend for a total $7.651m since it’s release.

The top five was capped off with Sony’s space thriller Life, which earned $797,971 over the weekend.
