BetEasy appoints GPY&R Melbourne following pitch
GPY&R Melbourne has picked up online wagering brand BetEasy following a competitive pitch.
BetEasy head of marketing Ed Owens said: “In the pitch process George Patterson Y&R proved themselves as the most creative and forward thinking agency.
“This is a very exciting time for our business, and we are really looking forward to working with the team at GPY&R.”
The appointment follows on from BetEasy securing an exclusive sponsorship with the AFL.
GPY&R managing partner Julian Bell said: “BetEasy represents a truly exciting proposition for us; they are a brand with serious ambitions both in terms of acquisition, category disruption and technology advancement. It’s a challenge that will utilise all of the agency’s disciplines and leverage our deep history of sporting experience.”
GPY&R Melbourne clients include the AFL, VicRoads, Oakley and the NBN.
Last month BetEasy announced it had poaches Maxus MD Nick Keenan to be its commercial director.
I wonder when these ‘sin’ accounts will become like cigarette accounts – lots of money to spend but an incredibly negative moral brand position for the agency??? I can hear the Glen McGrathesque comments now – but it was legal……

great attitude John. I actually enjoy a bet on the weekend.
So will these sin accounts include alcohol and automotive clients? They cause plenty of issues in the community also.

@Larry thanks – agree my attitude on this is a ripper as well – i enjoy a bet, a beer and a few other things on the side BUT doesn’t mean i advocate the notion of trying to make more people do it more often via advertising. It’s not about brand switching – it’s about getting occasional punters to punt more often….do you support that as an outcome?
IMHO booze ads should go they way of ciggie ads, know that takes a lot of bucks outta the ad game but you can’t argue for keeping booze ads on that point alone.
Cars – interesting one that but i think more people die from booze and depression in this country than cars will ever account for, doesn’t make it right but is a line in the sand.

I agree with John here. Online betting companies are pretty insidious and deserve the same level of approbation as fags and booze, for those people who like getting on their moral high horse. We may as well lump confectionery in there while we’re social engineering
Can’t see the argument on cars at all though

Sport + betting = corruption.
