Blismobile extends WiFi to First Fleet

Blismobile has extended its WiFi reach to include First Fleet vessels. This follows the introduction of WiFi to the Sydney Ferries Manly Fleet early last year.

The announcment:

Following the successful introduction of free WiFi on the Sydney Ferries Manly Fleet in June last year, Blismobile has extended the service to the First Fleet vessels, taking the WiFi service to approximately 70% of Sydney Ferries passengers. Passengers receive a free 45 minutes session or 30 MB of data download with two sessions available for each user, one for AM and the other for PM.

Over 170,000 WiFi sessions were recorded since the service launched on the Manly vessels over 6 months ago, demonstrating a strong uptake from passengers. As well as enhancing the passenger journey experience, the WiFi service enables brands to connect with an AB commuter audience and is provided through a partnership between Blismobile and Tomizone, with Tomizone the platform solutions provider, and Blismobile responsible for commercialising the service through advertising.

MyCareer has come on board as the launch advertiser running across Blismobile’s transit WiFi network which now includes the Manly and First Fleet, and also Metro10 buses, with a combined audience reach of 1.2 million per month. MyCareer has exclusive branding domination on the WiFi login page and all WiFi users are redirected to the MyCareer.com.au website once logged in.

With the increase in smart phone penetration, the number of people accessing the internet from these devices, particularly in a transit environment, is increasing at a rapid rate creating a huge opportunity for advertisers. Mobile internet usage has almost doubled in the last year and Frost & Sullivan forecasts strong growth for the sector over the next five years with the mobile advertising market forecast to reach $76 million by 2015, with a CAGR from 2010 to 2015 of 46 percent.

Claire Gunn, Director of Blismobile added “We now have Australia’s largest transit WiFi network with over 50,000 connections per month enabling brands to engage with a captive audience in a transit environment . We are really excited to be extending the reach of the WiFi service to more of the Sydney Ferries fleet as this will enhance the journey experience for commuters and drive value for brands looking to connect with a premium audience’

Following a tender process last year, Blismobile was awarded the contract for managing Sydney Ferries advertising assets which include poster media, WiFi, mobile content distribution and experiential activity. With the combination of Sydney Ferries and the M10 buses commuter route, Blismobile has the largest transit WiFi network in Australia.
