The Block contestant ‘cheating’ controversy fails to boost ratings on Monday night

Controversy appears to have failed to stir a ratings boost for Nine’s The Block, with 1.191m metropolitan viewers tuning in last night, despite tensions on the renovation show heating up amid “cheating” claims against contestants Simon and Shannon,

The last two episodes on Sunday and Monday have seen the duo questioned over their attempt to secretly record the judges comments, but the ratings were slightly down on last week where the program drew an audience of 1.28m. On Sunday it recorded a series high of 1.6m viewers.

The result still saw The Block top the night, while over on Seven The X Factor pulled 1.057m viewers and The Amazing Race Australia vs New Zealand drew 663,000 at 8.40pm a slight improvement on last week’s 616,000. A second episode at 9.40pm pulled 517,000.
