Bohemia CEO steps down

The chief executive officer of Bohemia — a media agency owned by M&C Saatchi Group — has stepped down from his role.

Paul Hutchison, who was announced as Bohemia’s CEO in May 2022 after its co-founder Brett Dawson shifted into a global role within the group’s organisation, has decided to step down from the position, citing a move back to the United Kingdom as the reason for his departure.

“After careful consideration, Paul Hutchison has made the personal decision to return to the UK,” an M&C Saatchi spokesperson said to Mumbrella.

“Paul has been a valued member of the Bohemia and M&C Saatchi family, contributing significantly during his time with us.

“We respect his decision and are grateful for his passion and dedication. We wish him all the best in his future endeavors.

“A search is currently underway for his replacement,” the spokesperson also revealed.

Prior to his two-year stint at Bohemia, Hutchison served as CEO of Wavemaker UK.

The experienced media leader published a post on his decision to leave Australia on LinkedIn.

“Our Australian adventures are coming to an end,” he wrote.

“Almost 2 years to the day since we left the UK for our Australian Adventure, Patty, Penny and I will be returning to the UK. It’s been a wonderful experience and one we will cherish forever in a country of outstanding natural beauty. All three of us feel extremely lucky to have had the opportunity to experience life in Australia.

“We leave full up with wonderful new memories, new lifelong friends and many learning experiences.

“All three of us are excited by what’s ahead when we return to the UK, more of that to come very soon. But for now it’s just a massive thank you to everyone we have met who has helped us settle into life in Australia and made this Australian Adventure and experience one we will never forget.

“We will be back to visit you all, of that there is no doubt.

“And if you haven’t had the chance to visit we’d highly recommend you pop down under to say g’day.”

The news of Hutchison’s departure comes six months after Bohemia and M&C Saatchi helped deliver a superannuation campaign for Australian Retirement Trust – a platform that used the image of a literal monster.

“Working as a fully integrated media and advertising team has given us the perfect opportunity to harness the combined power of creativity and media to hand select monstrous media placements that enhance the ‘Awaken Your Super’ message,” Hutchison had commented at the time.

M&C Saatchi Group has also experienced some business-defining changes in the previous months.

While August saw confirmation that M&C Saatchi Australia had lost Origin Energy’s creative account to Special, an announcement in early October revealed that it had been chosen by the international automotive manufacturer Chery Motors to fully manage its creative and strategy operations with a focus on the Australian market.

When speaking on M&C Saatchi’s appointment, Chery Motors Australia’s CEO Lewis Lu had said at the time: “Selecting to partner with M&C Saatchi as our creative agency was a natural decision, driven by their ability to blend innovation with impactful storytelling.

“Their strategic approach and understanding of our brand have already begun to elevate our narrative and how we will connect with customers.”

Mumbrella has contacted Bohemia for comment on Hutchison’s move.
