Boony and Lee push Pay Your Mate Back week for CommBank
CommBank has recruited former Australian cricketers Brett Lee and David Boon to lead an online campaign to promote its Kaching mobile payment app.
The duo front the brand’s Pay Your Mate Back week campaign, which has been created by PR agency One Green Bean.
The insight at the centre of the campaign is research suggesting that there is an estimated $1.8 billion in ‘mate debt’ in Australia.
The online video, directed by Nathan Earl, sees Boon and Lee bantering about a debt from years before.

Viewers are offered links to videos to send to mates who owe them money, depending whether they are ‘stinges’, ‘shirkers’ or ‘phantoms’.
The PR campaign, which kicked off with coverage in The Sunday Telegraph, will be backed with online ads on News Limited websites and radio spots on Nova.
Boon has previously been a winning spokesman for brands, including a long-standing role for VB which culminated in the Talking Boony doll.

This is why PR agencies should stick to PR.
God awful and thoroughly uninspiring like most of what CBA does these days.

But it’s a thousand times better than putting people in yellow morph suits at the cricket.
Whoever thought of that beauty should be fired.

I’m confused – how many agencies does Comm Bank have. I was blaming M&C for this horrible promotion… and then scrolled down to see it’s a Green Bean.
Wow…and just as an aside how do these guys know how much is owed to who and by whom.
Certainly didn’t check with the plethora of teenagers that find their way through this household.

A great PR concept let down by pretty horrible execution.
Why do agencies keep awarding these jobs to 2nd rate corporate/wedding video guys who have simply stuck ‘Content’ on their shingle? This is about as sharable as a funnel web, and it must take a particular lack of ability to make Boony look boring.
What a steamer.

Strong PR idea but guessing Commonwealth insisted on a pretty ‘safe’ execution.

I think this is a really great idea and the execution’s actually pretty good. I can see this having legs for a while. It did also remind me (no joke) that my mate owes me 500 bucks, so I’m sending Boony round.
