Bored store mannequin goes to Europe with Contiki
A mannequin in a shop window who enviously watches on as young people plan their Contiki adventures finally gets to go to Europe in the brand’s latest marketing push.
The agency behind ‘Manny Does Contiki’, Common Ventures, said the strategy for the campaign was three-fold: breathe new life into the core brand proposition of ‘Travel with No Regrets’, show the Contiki difference, and sell the Europe experience including social connections and the moments that stick with travellers forever.
According to Common Ventures, the short film – which shows Manny “motorboating” Italian Gelato, hitting on a Greek goddess and making human friends – demonstrates how Contiki goes beyond the expected European experience.
Vanessa Fletcher, marketing director at Contiki, said you only get one shot.
“You only get one shot at life, and Manny is here to show us that it’s those moments in between the tourist landmarks that shape you – it’s in the people that you meet and those personal experiences that that end up creating the best moments of your life,” she said.
James Crawley, creative director and on-set puppeteer, said Contiki needed a campaign which wasn’t just another travel video.
“Simply following a young traveller enjoying Europe wouldn’t work,” he said. “We needed something that allowed us to show all the amazing experiences that Contiki offers, without the comms turning into just another travel video.”
Brian Merrifield, executive creative director at the agency, added: “We have an incredibly tight-knit team, so we’re well placed to move quickly and execute a multi-country shoot with a low-impact crew. We found this to be incredibly important in the travel industry.”

this looks uninspiring – but same idea well produced equals this – one of my favourite ads of all time

Hhmmm,
Congrats here to Contiki and Common Ventures. A brilliant, insight rich, piece of work – very strong and very well produced.
Btw, to “Hi” – the advert you are comparing are worlds apart in messaging. Contiki is quirky holiday adventure and fun. Your “more inspiring” ad is drawing on Cinema level production qualities and entertainment – totally different purposes, (oh, and yes it concludes with a bear turned into a stuffed rug – very politically correct!?!)

…I kinda wish I was 20 again.
Also quite refreshing to see something fun that doesn’t have a credit list of 400 people on it.

Love the team at Common Ventures, and great work as always. Have admired these guys for a long time. The good guys of the ad game.
