The announcement:

Breville, the household name synonymous with innovative kitchen appliances, is thrilled to announce a milestone celebration—50 years of their iconic jaffle maker the Original ’74™. The beloved Australian sandwich press developed by Breville has toasted its way into the hearts of millions. In honour of this golden anniversary, Breville is teaming up with Sydney’s most beloved sandwich shop, Good Ways Deli. The partnership is set to deliver an unforgettable culinary experience that pays homage to the Australian classic with the launch of a pop-up Original ’74” tuckshop.

In 1974, Breville launched the first jaffle maker. Decades on, jaffles are still a family favourite in Australian homes, and the Original ’74 enables any home cook to transform humble ingredients into golden, crispy, and mouth-watering delights. From school lunches to late-night snacks, the jaffle has cemented its place as a symbol of comfort, nostalgia, and Aussie ingenuity. To celebrate such an iconically Australian milestone, Breville and Good Ways Deli are bringing to life the Original ’74 tuckshop.

This October, everyone is invited on a journey through the history of the Original ’74 as Breville partners with Good Ways Deli, who has drawn inspiration from country bakeries, school canteens and the Country Women’s Association to inspire its sandwich and treat offerings. The menu will showcase the best of both brands—a fusion of tradition and creativity that honours the past while embracing the future of the jaffle.

“The menu will feature a mix of traditional Australian jaffle classics such as baked beans and cheese as well as a modern take on the Bolognese jaffle with parmesan bechamel. Finished off with a classic milkshake,” Jordan Mckenzie, co-owner Good Ways Deli.

“We’re incredibly proud to celebrate 50 years of the jaffle maker. Who would have thought this idea for making quick and tasty snacks would become an Australian icon. It’s earned a cherished place in our culinary history. Partnering with Good Ways Deli allows us to share this milestone with the community in a truly unique way, offering a taste of nostalgia and our historic innovation,” Richard Hoare, Breville design & innovation director.

The Original ’74 tuckshop will be open to the public from October 24 to October 27, 2024, at Good Ways Deli in Redfern. During the pop-up, visitors can purchase limited edition merchandise and enjoy exclusive giveaways as part of the celebration.
