BT Financial Group chief marketer departs after company splits digital from his remit
The chief marketing officer of BT Financial Group Mark Murray has left the company after having the digital element of his portfolio taken away.
In a statement the company told Mumbrella it had decided to split out the digital capabilities for sales and services across its business from the chief marketing officer’s remit, adding it is now recruiting for two new roles.
“As we continue to build our digital capability in both sales and service across all aspects of our business, we have separated our digital and marketing businesses creating two new roles – the two leaders of the digital and marketing teams will report to Andrew Walker in the newly created position of chief operating officer,” said a spokesperson in a statement.
Murray is one of Australia’s most experienced financial services marketers having started his career at Count Financial in the late 90s, before spending more than a decade moving through various roles at Commonwealth Bank.
He joined BT Financial, which is the wealth management arm of Westpac Group, in November 2012.

I am sure that makes total sense internally, but every other business who has tried it has failed.
Take marketing away from the CMO and put a true digital change agent in overall control.
No wonder the business is so far behind digitally.
