BuzzFeed launches new podcast, ‘Pretty for an Aboriginal’

BuzzFeed is set to launch a new podcast, ‘Pretty for an Aboriginal.’

The announcement:

BuzzFeed is proud to introduce Pretty For An Aboriginal — the new podcast hosted by Nakkiah Lui and Miranda Tapsell that’s set to rock traditional perceptions of Indigenous Australia and challenge rigid mindsets of what women of colour can and cannot do.

In the eight episode first season, which launches on 13 September, Nakkiah and Miranda will talk honestly about relationships, weight, dick pics and being a boss in male-dominated industries, and unpack the pervasive influence of African American popular culture and politics on young black people in Australia. They’ll discuss building a First Nations support system on social media, and examine why representation really, truly, definitely matters. Pretty For An Aboriginal Season 1 will feature guests including author Roxane Gay, Orange Is The New Black’s Yael Stone, rapper and TV writer Adam Briggs, Canadian Vice presenter and activist Sarain Carson Fox, and rising Australian actors Akar Das (Lion) and Blessing Mokgohloa (Spartacus), among others.

Honest, irreverent and woke AF, Pretty For An Aboriginal is a new offering for an audience severely underserved in the Australian mainstream — young women (and men) of colour and their allies, who would rather talk about ambition, success and making it to the top than the issues traditionally linked to their race or gender.
