The greatest insight today at Cannes was from Rob Reilly, the Worldwide Chief Creative Officer of CP+B. Rob put forward a powerful plea to industry trade sites around the world to ban anonymous commenting. His argument was that this practice is detrimental to the creative industry, not because it hurts peoples feelings or egos, but because our clients read these articles. Clients need to take risks on creative, and when a client takes a risk and they see is negative comments on trade sites, it causes agencies to take a conservative approach to presenting creative and clients will become less likely to take risks in the fear of ridicule of their brand, or even worse their personal decision to give the agency a chance.
