Carat APAC CEO Jonathan Chadwick to relocate to Australia

Carat Asia-Pacific CEO Jonathan Chadwick is looking to relocate back to Australia, but denied this equates to an imminent departure from the Dentsu Aegis Network (DAN).

The Australian clarified that his decision to return was “independent of the regional structural changes”. He didn’t specify when the relocation would happen and said the discussions were at an early stage.

Speaking to Mumbrella, Chadwick said: “I have been in a discussion on relocating to Australia for family reasons.”

Rumours of Chadwick’s departure were part of widespread speculation this week around senior exits at Dentsu Aegis Network including South East Asia CEO Phil Teeman and North Asia CEO Rob Hughes.

The departures were apparently a result of recent rounds of regional restructuring and consolidation. DAN declined to issue an official statement on Teeman and Hughes, saying it does not comment on its people.

Chadwick was recently mandated with running the one Singapore media group at Dentsu Aegis Network, an integrated unit of DAN’s media and performance agencies including Carat, Vizeum and Dentsu X.

He said that he would support DAN and that the transition would be managed smoothly, spearheaded by Dentsu veteran Masaya Nakamura and  and Dentsu X general manager Phil Adrien.

Addressing Chadwick’s move, a Dentsu Aegis Network spokesperson said: “We are in discussions with Jonathan Chadwick about him returning to Australia for personal reasons.

“We are exploring opportunities for Jonathan within the network. In the interim, Phil Adrien will take leadership of OneSG Media Group with Masaya Nakamura as leader of the Singapore business.”

Chadwick returned to the media agency landscape in July, after a sting consulting, developing and investing.

He has spent time as CEO of Group M’s Maxus, as well as chief strategy officer of Group M.
