Chandon kicks off McLaren F1 sponsorship with a race through the vineyards

Chandon has launched its first work with McLaren

Button vs Alonso in vineyard race

Australian sparkling wine maker Chandon has launched its partnership with the McLaren Formula 1 team with an unorthodox race through vineyards between the team’s drivers.

Chandon announced the partnership two weeks ago and the video is the first work to debut, timed to coincide with the Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne.

The ad features McLaren Drivers Jenson Button and Fernando Alonso racing on foot through the winemaker’s vineyards, before leaping aboard any handy conveyance they happen to come across, from bikes to boats and tractors.

The race ends with the pair toasting with bottles of flowing Chandon with the Domaine Chandon Winery the backdrop.

In a lightning fast turnaround, the video featuring the drivers was only shot on Wednesday, before being edited and rolled out today. Thanks to helmets, the drivers only appear in the opening and closing shots, making it possible to shoot the rest of the film beforehand with stand-ins.

Red Agency has been managing the partnership while the team is in Australia.
