Charlie Pickering to leave The Project next month

charlie pickeringComedian Charlie Pickering will leave The Project next month, he has announced during the show tonight.

Pickering explained on the Channel Ten show he is due to become a father, with the announcement coming afterformer co-host Dave Hughes left the show at the end of last year to be replaced with Peter Helliar.

His last day with the show will be April 7.

A Channel Ten spokesperson said: “We’re not looking for a new Charlie. Carrie and Pete will lead the show. We’ve got very good regular panellists on The Project. We will be expanding their roles and looking for one or two new contributors.”

Pickering has co-hosted The Project on Ten since it launched in July 2009, first as a half hour show The 7pm Project, and then as it expanded to become the hour long show also hosted by comedian Dave Hughes, now Peter Helliar, and presenter Carrie Bickmore.

The Project is currently one of Ten’s best rating shows.
