Claire Sutherland takes helm of mX Melbourne as Steve Acott focuses on paid content

News Ltd has appointed Claire Sutherland as the new editor of its Melbourne edition of mX and moved Steve Acott to lead its paid content push for the Herald Sun.

Sutherland was previously News Ltd’s deputy editor, national features.  

Acott will become associate editor (paid content) of the HWT.

Both will report in to HWT editor-in-chief Phil Gardner.

News Ltd’s group editorial director, Campbell Reid, said: “Claire is a respected editor who will bring fresh ideas to her role as editor of mX. She inherits an incredibly successful newspaper.

“Under Steve’s editorship, mX’s distribution footprint in Melbourne has grown from 90,000 to 100,000 copies a day.”

Sutherland is a former Melbourne Press Club Quill Award young journalist of the year.

Acott’s brief will be to “help develop creative and unique content for heraldsun.com.au and other digital platforms.”
