Clemenger creates Road Runner-themed retail ad for Chrysler
Clemenger BBDO Melbourne has launched one of the final pieces of creative developed for outgoing client Chrysler, using the theme of Warner Bros’ Road Runner cartoon.
The Off-Road Runner Sale retail campaign has been launched to promote the latest deals for its Jeep brand during the first quarter of the year.
In December, Clemenger said that it would not repitch for the Chrysler ad account following a global review of the business which saw the car company in the US part ways with BBDO Worldwide in favour of Fallon.
Clemenger’s Chrylser Jeep TV spot, Spring Break was named turkey of the year at the Mumbrella Readers Choice Awards.
Didn’t Subaru do this about 5 years ago?
Your mum did it five years ago.
How did this get approved from the powers that be? It doesnt exactly promote responsible driving????
Makes me think of Barinas.

i dig it – doesnt bother me if subaru did it – if they did, i dont remember, and no one else does. it stands out – clearly demonstrates pricepoint has has a nice slice of americana to it without doing a bad impression of Arnie or Obama
Eek, that comeback’s almost as original as the TVC.
The arnie ad was good … 2 of my friends once said they liked it, hence so did everyone else in Australia.
It’s bad enough that the Jeep ad rips off the Barina ad (I can just imagine the creatives losing sleep at night in the hope they’d get away it), but the Barina ad is clearly ripping off the Road Runner cartoons that went before it.
Where will it end?
“but the Barina ad is clearly ripping off the Road Runner cartoons that went before it”
Think the term you’re looking for is “licensed”, not “ripping off”
I wonder what the license agreement is ? Is Road Runner paid more than Coyote ?
This is all the Marketing Director’s fault, they clearly engaged Clem’s to produce it with very direct instruction, as Clem Melbourne’s standard is very high.
I like it.
“Think the term you’re looking for is “licensed”, not “ripping off””
No – ‘paid homage to’ is the right one.
The Chrysler ad ‘pays homage to’ the Barina one – effectively it’s a tribute, hence very honourable.
SImon T Small.. you are correct the ultimate responsibility for bad advertising sits squarely with the Marketing Director… as is the decision for emploung bad staff who deal with bad advertising agencies… Badly
I just wanted to be the first person to post an intelligent comment.
I wanted to be the second!
I kinda like it.
Needs a goat.
