The ABC’s much talked about new supernatural drama Cleverman debuted at 9.30pm last night with 452,000 metro viewers, second in its time slot behind Nine’s The Footy Show.

Ten’s Masterchef was the most-watched program last night, pulling in a metro audience of 1.089m at 7.30pm in the absence of its reality rivals. However, it was not enough to help Ten win the night, according to OzTAM overnight metro ratings.

Nine took top spot with an audience share of 18.3% ahead of Ten’s share of 17% while Seven settled for third place with a share of 16.4%. The ABC managed a share of 13%.

Ten dominated the key advertising demographics with Masterchef the most-watched show across the key age groups (16-39, 18-49 and 25-54).

Masterchef easily out-rated Nine’s RBT, which was watched by 613,000 at 7:30pm.

Nine’s The Footy Show was watched by 620,000 at 8:45pm, with the AFL version pulling in a far larger audience than the NRL despite the promise of an exclusive State of Origin wrap-up, while Ten’s Law & Order: SVU achieved 513,000 at 8:45pm.

Seven’s gameshow The Chase Australia took an audience of 720,000 for its second half-hour from 5:30pm

On the news front, Seven News at 6:00pm was watched by 1.077m, slipping to 1.071m from 6:30pm while Nine News at 6:00pm grabbed 1.004m, growing to 1.008m from 6:30pm.

The breakfast battle saw Today’s Australian road-trip triumph over Seven’s Sunrise, attracting 355,000 viewers to Sunrise’s 327,000.

On the ABC, 7.30 was watched by 678,000, Kitchen Cabinet (8:00pm) pulled in 568,000 and Rake (8:30pm) achieved an audience of 602,000.
