CNET site now consistent across all devices

CBS Interactive has launched consumer technology site, CNET Australia to be viewable on any tablet or phone device.

The announcement:

CBS Interactive Launches Australia’s First Cross Platform Editorial Site CNET Australia now viewable as one single site across any device, any browser.

Sydney, December 19th – Australia’s most popular consumer technology website, CNET Australia, has launched with a new adaptive framework which allows readers to view cnet.com.au on any device, regardless of the operating system, screen size or web browser.

The new framework, which was developed in-house and is a first for CBS Interactive Australia, automatically changes the layout of the site to suit the device it is being viewed on, making it much easier for tablet and smart phone users to enjoy their favourite CNET content.

Latest figures from Nielsen show that the Australian mobile audience has more than doubled in the past 12 months*, and internal site data confirms that more readers are reaching CNET Australia via mobile devices than ever before. The adaptive site provides CBS Interactive a basis for developing further mobile products and offers commercial flexibility to adjust to the changing online landscape.

“Readers are now using a wide spectrum of devices to access websites such as CNET Australia, and it is important for publishers to cater to this and provide the best user experience possible for all who want to access our content anywhere at any time,” says Jo Gaines, General Manager, Consumer. “This new platform helps us provide a consistent brand to all users while allowing our partners to optimize commercial opportunities and target their offerings to any platform.”

Key features of the new platform include:

  • Consistent user experience across multiple mobile operating systems, device types and screen sizes
  • Automatically adjusts content, based on screen size and orientation to give the best possible reading experience on any device
  • Contains all the news and reviews content from CNET Australia – articles are published on all platforms simultaneously and images are automatically resized
  • Videos can be viewed on mobile devices
  • Fully interactive and allows users to log in, add comments and share via their social networks
  • Separate commercial offerings for smartphone and tablet, or clients can run campaigns across all platforms
