Collider work features in Times Square for Nelson Mandela project

A short film created by a Sydney film and design collective featuring Nelson Mandela’s most famous and powerful speeches and words of wisdom is being screened across Times Square.

Collider was invited to create the three-minute piece of animated typography titled The Power of Words, by the Nelson Mandela Foundation and Robert De Niro’s Tribeca Film Institute to commemorate the 95th birthday of Nelson Mandela.

One of Collider’s directors, Nabil Elderkin, is on good terms with Mandela’s grandson Kweku Mandela.

The shorts are screening all throughout April and show nightly at 11.57pm as part of the “Midnight Moment: A Digital Gallery” event.

The Power of Words will screen across at least 25 billboards, 15 large and more than 10 smaller.

It was developed as a collaboration between Nabil Elderkin, Andrew van der Westhuyzen and Gregory Stern with post production by Collider and Method Studios Australia.

The work will also feature at a special event to honour Nelson Mandela at the Tribeca Film Festival later this month.

Kweku Mandela said: “The aim was to commission exceptional practitioners to interpret the words of my grandfather through original creative work as a way to commemorate his 95th Birthday and create public awareness for the collaboration between the Nelson Mandela Foundation and Tribeca titled The Power of Words”
