Compare the Market tells the story of how Aleksandr Olrov’s ancestors came to Russia in new cinema campaign
Insurance website Compare the Market is sending its meerkats Aleksandr Orlov and head of IT Sergei onto the silver screen, with a new brand campaign set to show in cinemas nationwide.
Created by VCCP in conjunction with production company Passion Pictures, the ad, which also is running on TV, answers the question of how Aleksandr and Sergei – meerkats who are traditionally found in Africa – came to live in Russia, in a campaign which was first aired in the UK three years ago.
Aleksandr tells the audience how his anestors lived a “simples” life in the African Kalahari desert until a terrible grub famine forced them to flee, with the end message being “my ancestors did not go through all that to get you cheap car insurance”, pointing audiences to the correct website for insurance comparison.
Comparethemarket.com.au spokesperson Abigail Koch said: “The latest TVC is big news in the evolution of the meerkats in Australia. They have such a strong following, so it was just a matter of time before Aleksandr and Sergei graced our big screens.
“We know their fans are going to love the feature-film-feel to the new TVC, as well as the additional materials, including a trailer and a hilarious Director’s Cut version, voiced by Aleksand.”
To coincide with the launch of the film is an updated comparethemeerkat.com.au website, which Sergei has been busy updating since he came out of hospital.
I saw this at the cinema at the weekend, i do like these ads and thought this was really nice extension to the campaign
