Crazy Rich Asians adds $5.2m to earnings in second week at box office

Crazy Rich Asians added another $5.218m to total earnings at the weekend box office, knocking The Meg off the top spot.

The movie, which follows the life of a young Asian-American woman who travels to meet her boyfriend’s wealthy family, led the Australian weekend box office. The film was showing at 477 screens over the weekend. As a result of the weekend’s success, the film has made $7.344m.

Warner Bros’ The Meg, which last week topped box office, came in behind Crazy Rich Asians, adding $1.249m total earnings. Since the film premiered, it has made $8.353m.

New film Mile 22 made just $1.174m across 223 screens on its first weekend at the Australian box office, the Motion Picture Distributors Association of Australia reports.

Mile 22, which stars Mark Wahlberg, John Malkovich and Rona Rousey, is an action thriller based on an elite CIA task force, who must escort a high priority ‘asset’ 22 miles to an extraction point.

Book Club, which stars Jane Fonda, Diane Keaton, Candice Bergen and Mary Steenburgen, made just $1.045m over the weekend, bringing total box office earnings to $3.590m. Meanwhile Mission: Impossible – Fallout, finished with an extra $898,231 in earnings.
