Creator of Mamamia Podcast Network, Monique Bowley, departs

The creator of Mamamia’s Podcast Network, Monique Bowley, has departed the company after almost three years.

Bowley joined Mamamia in January 2015 as director of podcasts, launching Mamamia’s Podcast Network.

Bowley created the Mamamia Podcast Network

Prior to Mamamia, Bowley held roles including radio producer and broadcaster at the ABC for five years, and columnist and reporter at News Corp Australia for almost four years.

According to Bowley’s Twitter account, she is now executive producer of podcasts at the ABC.

Mamamia’s Podcast Network was launched in 2015, hitting 1m downloads by the end of the year. In 2016, the podcast network launched an app.

The network has previously said it wants to “own” women’s ears, cracking 2m downloads of its podcasts.

The network now has more than six shows across various genres, including Mamamia Out Loud, This Glorious Mess, Just Between Us, No Filter, I Don’t Know How She Does It, and I Know What You’ll Read This Summer.

In April this year, the network added a “family-friendly” kids’ podcast to the mix – The Beanies – which aims to save parents embarrassment and hassle when asked questions from their kids.

Several months ago, Mamamia came under fire for a No Filter podcast fronted by the company’s founder, Mia Freedman, which disclosed behind-the-scenes requests from guest, Roxane Gay.

Holly Wainwright, head of content, said Mamamia was proud of the company’s “talented alumni.”

“We know that the ABC is lucky to be getting Monique as she’s made an amazing contribution to the development of the Mamamia Podcast Network along side a team of producers and more than 20 talented hosts,” Wainwright said.

It is unclear who will be replacing Bowley.
