Dan Debuf and Maz Compton will be the new drive team for the Today Network with anchor Michael Christian, Southern Cross Austereo has confirmed.

The move sees the pair move their nationally broadcast two-hour 6pm show to drive time, with Christian, who previously hosted the Hot 30 Countdown on the Today Network and was involved in the royal prank phone call implicated in the death of a British nurse, an anchor on the show.

Dave Cameron, head of the Today Network, said the show is focused on the chemistry between Dan and Maz, but Christian is there to “stitch it all together”.

Dan and Maz replace Fifi Box and Jules Lund in Drive as Box moves to Melbourne to host breakfast with Dave Thornton, and Lund joins Sophie Monk, Merrick Watts and Mel B on 2DayFM breakfast in Sydney.

The pair moved to the Today Network and launched their evening show in March having moved from Nova Adelaide where they presented breakfast.

Cameron said the show has been fine tuned during the evening timeslot and is ready to be ramped up for the far bigger drive time audience.

“We’ve had our eye on them for a while and it’s a show that’s quite unique to any other,” he told Mumbrella.

“There’s a realness to it. It’s light-hearted, it’s young, it’s smart, it’s fresh, it’s completely listener inclusive. It’s an easy listen, and it’s just one of those shows that has that X factor about it.

“This show is exactly what the Today Network is all about for the future. We’re all about finding the next big thing and building exciting radio for the next generation of listeners coming through.

“We’re all about under 40 and these guys really smack that audience right between the eyes. They talk a different language, they talk to under 30s like other shows don’t and they are completely socially connected. They know a little about a lot.”
