Darren Davidson returns to The Australian from Storyful

The Australian has appointed Darren Davidson, the editor-in-chief of digital news service Storyful, as its new director of partnerships.

Davidson will focus on expanding video capability across The Australian’s suite of digital platforms. He was the media editor of the masthead before he joined Storyful in New York in 2018.

As he returns to Sydney in September for the new role, Davidson will also appear regularly on Sky News Australia, focusing on media, marketing and business issues.

He said of the new role: “The Australian has a unique role in the national conversation, breaking the big news stories, offering world-class analysis and opinion and delving deep into all aspects of who we are and our place in the world.

“I’m excited at the opportunities to help further grow The Australian’s premier position in our media landscape.”

During his time at Storyful, Davidson led a global team of journalists in New York, London, Dublin and Sydney. In 2019, he also stepped up to lead the News and Video unit, adding sales and revenue to his responsibilities.

The News and Video unit supplies breaking news and video content to clients including Bloomberg, The Washington Post, The Times of London and NBCUniversal.

In the latest Ipsos Iris ranking, The Australian has entered the top 10 news site ranking for the first time with 4.37 million visitors in June.
