Million-dollar debut for Daybreakers
The vampire film by the Spierig brothers reached the third spot at the Australian box office this weekend (Feb 7), with $1.03m, while Bran Nue Dae remained in the top 10 with $566,109 (#9).
A Lionsgate production, but shot in Queensland, financially supported by Screen Australia and Screen Queensland, and developed and made by mostly Australian talent, Daybreakers has earned U$29.97m in the US since its release on January 8. Its reported budget was A$20m.
Bran Nue Dae has earned more than $6m since its debut in January.
The third Australian film currently in cinemas, Being in Heaven, is not reporting the box office earnings for its limited release at Palace.
