Digital agency Sputnik hires Amnesia’s Rodd Messent to head Sydney operation

Rodd MessentSputnik – one of Australia’s most successful digital agencies – is to launch a full Sydney presence following the appointment of Amnesia’s Rod Messent.

Messent will be director of the agency’s Sydney operations, with an initial team of four or five, but with plans to rapidly grow, managing director Steve O’Farrell told Mumbrella.

The agency has had a below-the-radar presence in Pyrmont for some time to service existing clients, but Messent’s appointment signals an intention to gear up operations. The agency’s Melbourne office has nearly 70 staff, while its Adelaide office has eight.

O’Farrell said: “When we came across Rodd we realised it was an opportunity to build up. I fully expect that by the end of next year a significant percentage of our revenue will come from Sydney.” The agency’s Sydney-based clients already include Google, Sanitarium, J&J, City of Sydney, the NSW Department of Small Business, Luna Park and the government’s Export Finance and Insurance Corporation.

The news from Sydney comes in what has been an upbeat week for Sputnik. The agency was shortlisted for B&T’s interactive agency of the year. And it has won the social media account for Victoria’s Country Fire Authority, as the organisation gears up for bushfire season.
