DR MUMBO: Guerilla PR
A lot can happen in 24 hours. Take this press release from Network Ten, yesterday:
Canterbury Council are in the process of destroying a site that the Guerrilla Gardeners transformed for TEN’s new show Guerrilla Gardeners. The site located outside the Canterbury train station in Sydney, was featured in the first episode of Guerrilla Gardeners and was, prior to being made over by the Guerrilla’s (sic), a desolate, ugly, dead stretch of land. The Guerrilla’s (sic) transformed the eyesore into a beautiful space for commuters and the local community to enjoy.”
Or this one, issued about half an hour ago:
We got it wrong. Canterbury Council was not in the process of tearing down the “Guerrilla Hit” at Canterbury Rail Station as stated in yesterday’s somewhat over-eager alert, prompted by a tip off from a concerned local. The site located outside the Canterbury train station in Sydney, was featured in the first episode of Guerrilla Gardeners and remains a delightful transformation. We are glad the Canterbury community has taken the garden into its heart.”
Sadly, the story does not have a completely happy ending. Last night only 685,000 vieweers tuned into the show.
although the concept is good, the execution is kinda boring to watch and not engaging.

Interesting! They also completed a ‘restoration’ last week at the top of the Storey Bridge in Brisbane (corner of Malt St and Bowen Terrace) where they put up two bronze statues of backpackers.
They’ve since been stolen….
