Ed Kavalee leaves Triple M Brisbane breakfast as Lawrence Mooney joins lineup
Triple M Brisbane breakfast host Ed Kavalee is set to depart after four years, moving back to Melbourne to spend time with his family.
He will be replaced by television and radio personality Lawrence ‘The Moonman’ Mooney who will join Greg ‘Marto’ Martin and Robin Bailey in 2017.
The announcement, which was made live in-studio today, is the second change to the show in a year.
Earlier this year, Bailey was added to the Triple M Brisbane breakfast line up, after being axed from ARN Brisbane breakfast the year prior.
Mooney has been filling in for Kavalee who has been on paternity leave.
Commenting on his appointment Mooney said the show is “fun” and resonates with its listeners.
“I’m really looking forward to The Triple M Big Breakfast with Marto and Robin in 2018. Having filled in for Ed with the guys, and having played Rich Uncle Mal over the past three years I have a great rapport with them and the whole team,” said Mooney.
“There is however, a little trepidation because Ed is leaving some big shoes to fill – not because he’s talented, just because he’s got massive shoes.”
Triple M Brisbane’s content director David Rymer said the addition of Mooney will bring a “brilliant injection of dry, quick comedy to the show”.
The move is likely to trigger speculation that Kavalee – who will remain within the SCA network – could end up pm the Fox FM breakfast program, replacing Dave Thronton.
In the latest survey, Ed, Marto and Robin placed third in Brisbane breakfast, down 0.1 ratings point to 10.1%.
The change is the latest in a series of mix ups across Australian radio’s breakfast slots, with Hit network Perth’s breakfast hosts Will & Woody joining ARN and taking over national drive, and New Zealand radio stars Jase & PJ taking over from Matt & Meshel on Kiis FM breakfast in Melbourne.
Two weeks ago, Osher Gunsberg also announced he would be leaving his breakfast show on Hit 105 Brisbane.
