Elevencom and Bite Communications launch Knowledge Water

Creative agency Elevencom and PR agency Bite Communications have launched a new spring water business, Knowledge Water.

The announcement:

Sydney marketing companies partner with scientist and remote Indigenous community to launch Knowledge Water crowd funding campaign.

In a rare marketing partnership, Sydney advertising agency, Elevencom, is working together with PR agency, Bite Communications, a Darwin-based educator and agricultural scientist, Rod Baker, and a remote Indigenous community in East Arnhem Land to create a new spring water business called Knowledge Water.

The group has just launched a nationwide crowd funding campaign to kick-start the business which is aimed at closing the gap in wealth, health and education in the region.

This triple bottom line enterprise will harvest water from a spring on the community’s traditional land and sell it across the Northern Territory and around Australia.

The local employment generated will vitalise the struggling community, while profits will be used to keep the local school open, and eventually to train Indigenous teachers.

The business also aims to give Indigenous communities a healthy alternative to sugary drinks. For Rod Baker, who has been working with the community for over a decade, the crowd funding campaign is a massive step forward.

“All the years of planning that we’ve done with the family in East Arnhem Land are finally coming to life.”

“This business, will allow the community to take control of their own destiny, keep their school house open, and continue their connection with their land and their culture,” Baker said.

Teacher at the local school, Rurrawiliny Ngurruwuthan, shares Rod’s enthusiasm for the business.

“We want this water business to happen in our community for our future,”Ngurruwuthan said. Elevencom has been involved for the last 18 months, first visiting the community to conduct a marketing and creative workshop, then developing the brand strategy, packaging design and website. http://knowledgewater.com

“From the beginning, this has been a genuine creative partnership, with knowledge mixing freely between all the groups. Even the initial idea for the logo came from one of the family members,” said John McLachlan, Director Operations at Elevencom.

Andrea Brydges, Managing Director of Bite Communications said she was honoured to be supporting such an important initiative.

“As a business, we’ve been a long-term supporter of Indigenous health and empowerment, and you won’t find a better example of both than this project,”  Brydges said.

“Telling these stories is so important. It’s not only about inspiring people to support Indigenous enterprise, but also throwing light on positive stories in remote Australia.”
