Elfy Scott steps away from Mamamia

Mamamia’s executive editor, Elfy Scott, is departing the business after less than a year in the role.

Taking to LinkedIn on Friday morning, Scott said it was a “tough decision” to leave the team she “absolutely adore[s]”.

“Thank you so much to Mia Freedman for all of the incredible opportunities and to the rest of the executive editor team who have been so kind and wonderful throughout my time at MM,” Scott said.

“I’m so proud of the work that I’ve produced in my time at Mamamia, including long-form journalism, extremely silly columns, episodes of the daily news show The Quicky, and fill-ins on Mamamia Out Loud.”

Scott has announced she will be returning to “freelance life”, having spent much of the last decade freelancing for various outlets.

“And this isn’t goodbye – I’ll still remain part of the extended family and continue to write for the website and step in on podcasts but I’m heading back to freelance life to produce journalism for other outlets and pursue some passion projects,” she said.

Scott was appointed to the role in February this year, replacing Melody Teh, who departed the media company before taking up a role at news.com.au in April.

Mamamia’s editorial director Rosie Squires said at the time: “Elfy has such a unique combination of journalistic experience across written content, podcasting and broadcast journalism along with her exceptional producing and presenting skills.

“She is a huge talent on the keyboard, behind the pod mic, in front of a camera and in a newsroom. She is also a natural leader and role model both to young women in the media and within the wider community,” Squires added.

“These qualities are all innate to what we do at Mamamia as a media company whose purpose is to make the world a better place for women and girls.”
