Elizabeth Colman named new editor at the Wentworth Courier

News Corp has appointed Elizabeth Colman the editor of News Local title, Wentworth Courier.

Colman replaces former Women’s Weekly editor, Kim Doherty, who was appointed guest editor of the Wentworth Courier in October last year. Doherty, who held the role for six months, replaced Steve Howard, who went on to become editor of The Manly Daily.

Colman commenced her role yesterday

Before her latest role, Colman was associate editor of partnerships for The Daily Telegraph and The Sunday Telegraph, a role she held for just over one year.

But Colman’s time with News Corp extends well beyond The Daily Telegraph and The Sunday Telegraph. Prior to her time with the two mastheads, Colman worked as executive editor of custom lifestyle magazine, Season Magazine. She has also worked as senior group reporter for News Local and as an industrial correspondent for The Australian.

In her time overseas, Colman worked across a number of titles, contributing to Grazia Australia, Harper’s Bazaar and Vogue.

John McGourty, publisher of News Local told staff he was pleased to announce Colman’s appointment.

“Liz’s dynamic career started on The Australian in 2002 and she has worked for several prestigious publications in Australia and overseas,” McGourty said in an internal note.

“The Wentworth Courier is dear to Liz’s heart. She was born and raised in the eastern suburbs and avidly reads the publication every week.

“Together with her ambitious ideas and coveted local contacts Liz will ensure the Wentworth Courier is the most-talked-about publication in the area.”

Colman said she was “thrilled” to join the title.

“I am thrilled to be joining the Wentworth Courier, a publication that was always on my family’s kitchen table as I was growing up in Bondi. I’m joining a great team and look forward to working with them on stories devoted to eastern suburbs people, places and lifestyle, as well as local news, arts and culture,” she said.
