Em Rusciano to take break from breakfast show after losing baby

2Day FM breakfast host Em Rusciano is to take a leave of absence from her show after announcing over the weekend that she has lost the baby boy she was expecting.

Rusciano, who first took the helm of the Em Rusciano With Harley Breen show in January – revealed the loss to her Facebook followers in a post on Saturday night which has already drawn thousands of sympathetic comments.

Rusciano: Said 2Day FM team has supported her decision

She had been due to announce her “wondrous surprise” pregnancy on air on Monday, but will now be taking a break for the show after finding out on Friday that she had lost her child.

She wrote: “About 10 weeks ago I got the most wondrous surprise. I found out I was pregnant. I was going to announce it this Monday as we’d hit 13 weeks, but instead I will be at home in the most exquisite pain I can possibly fathom.”

She told followers, that management of the Southern Cross Austereo radio station had supported her wish to come off the air. She wrote:

“I’m going to take some time off the radio, off performing, off social media, off life. Not for too long, but I need some time.

“I was worried about the impact me being away from my radio show for a few weeks would have, we’re only new and have so much to do, but I’d be useless on air. The truth is I don’t feel very funny or entertaining at the moment, I feel like screaming and smashing things with a baseball bat Beyonce Lemonade style.

“I do want to thank my work and my team for being so understanding. Radio is a huge beast and having your new breakfast host, in the biggest market in the country, step away for a time, is a nightmare for everyone. They haven’t made me feel anything but supported.”

Weeknights presenter Ash London will step in on the show for the coming week.
