Encore’s new weekly edition goes live
Mumbrella’s sister title Encore has today launched as a weekly, tablet-only edition.
The title is already live in Apple’s App store, with the Google Android edition available tomorrow.
The move to weekly publication coincides with a widening of Encore’s content to cover the same media and marketing landscape as Mumbrella.
Encore is Mumbrella’s video-rich, analytical sister.
It will also break a number of exclusive news stories in each edition. This week, the news stories include details of News Limited’s plans for a major development in Parramatta, what ABC MD Mark Scott has to say about the future of his old employer Fairfax Media, and McCann’s new national creative structure.
Meanwhile, Mumbrella’s Robin Hicks explores the reasons for the decline of the Melbourne market compared to Sydney, while editor Tim Burrowes argues that media agency staff are nicer people than their creative counterparts.
We also talk to Australian of the year Ita Buttrose, AACTA lifetime achievement award recipient Al Clark, and Ten’s programming boss Beverley McGarvey.
We introduce a new agency advice column from STW COO Chris Savage.
And in a previously unpublished address from the late David Ogilvy, he sets out how to build a culture.
We also preview the key radio battlegrounds for the coming year, explore the lessons of Hungry Jack’s return to the “Burgers Are Better” slogan and look at the challenge Twitter faces to rehabilitate its reputation after the Daily Telegraph’s “Stop the Trolls” campaign.

Hey Tim,
How are the downloads of the new weekly tablet app going? Would love to see a post on “The First Two Weeks Of The Weekly Experiment”.
You marketing it very very hard, so what are the numbers like? Is it a viable business?

Hi AbGRLC,
Thanks for the question. I’m just preparing for tonight’s Ask The Marketers session in Melbourne but will happily come back with some stats when I’m back at my desk.
Cheers,
Tim – Mumbrella
Hey Tim,
No hurry. Just very interested in how it’s going.
Looking around on public transport you seem to see a lot of people with tablets, but they seem to be viewing websites rather than specific apps.
It’s only been a few weeks so it’s probably way too early to tell anything meaningful.
